Wow. I just realized how much of a procrastinator I am.
Apologies to anyone who reads my blog.. I've been lazy and didn't think that anything that's gone on lately was interesting enough to blog. But here we go with updates.
I guess the biggest thing that has gone on was my trip to Florida. We dropped off my little sister at Camp Chatuga, the camp that I'd gone to since I was 8 and she since she was 7. Last year was the last summer I could attend because I'm 17 now. 16 is the oldest that you can be to go, which was very hard for me, since I can't go back as a counselor until I'm 19. Anyway, my mom and I packed up the car (a giant poodle to drop off in tow) and drove up to Mountain Rest. It was painful being there and knowing that I wouldn't get to stay this time, but for some reason, it was easier to let go. Maybe because there were hardly any returner counselors, which really was a big part of making me want to come back every summer. That, plus the fact that it had changed SO much over the past few years. Rules were more strict and more ridiculous, and it just didn't feel quite the same. Not as warm and loving or something... odd.
After dropping her off, my mom and I took to the highway. Instead of taking 95 the whole way, we ended up taking 85 to 75, which turned out to be heavenly. You do have to go through Atlanta, but because our timing was great, we got through in about 10 minutes. Very easy drive down to Ocala, where we met the customer to drop the dog off with. Got a hotel and crashed for the night.
The next morning, I took the reins and drove the rest of the way from Ocala to Vero Beach. Got to go out to the fanciest restaurant (the indigo room) I'd ever been too. Sadly the food wasn't as great as I was expecting, but it was really nice to be brought to a "big girl dinner" with my mom and aunt. The next morning, we woke up early and drove to Stuart for my big surprise. Turned out to be a surfing lesson for me and my mom's friend Karen's daughter. I was THRILLED. I attempted to try surfing once and failed due to massive waves. But the instructor, Eric, was gorgeous, and it was with a week long surf camp for kids. At first, this was calming, because I knew I wouldn't be embarrassing myself in front of cute guys my age. But once the little kids started surfing circles around me... I was more embarrassed than ever. Didn't get up, but it was fun nonetheless. Afterwards, we went to one of Karen's friend's house. Her name was Kelly and she was completely LOADED. Giant house with an in-ground pool, 2 boats, private beach, about 3 cars each... I thought I'd stepped into an episode of "The Real Housewives of Stuart County." I was put in charge of watching her son (... no comment on him), and two of his friends for the night. We went bowling, which was fun, but god. I'd never been so embarrassed to be with people. Being looked at as the responsible adult was very unnerving seeing as these kids I was with were complete brats. Very rude to the employees and left a complete mess behind their lane. I stayed back and cleaned up as much as I could and apologized to the employees on their behalf. However, I did get to drive a kick-ass Jeep. Brand new, bigger than a Hummer... very cool, but I'd never drive it again.
We got to join up the group again the next morning for another surf lesson. And on that day, I got up! Not for very long, but I did stand up! We saw 2 water spouts form and got to surf on a bit bigger waves too. It was wicked. We were invited to come back the next day (for FREE!) and surf and join in on the big barbecue they had every Friday. However, my mom thought that we should head back to Vero. We got her belly button pierced before heading back.
My cousin Erica and I spent a bit of time chilling at the beach early the next day before coming back to get ready for the comedy club later that night. We encouraged our mom's to get a bit drunk, because they're both hysterical when they're drunk, and we agreed to be DD's. They proceeded to get a bit tipsy (or in my aunt's case.. pretty gone) which made the comedy club even more fun. The headliner was one of the funniest guy's I'd ever seen. Afterwards, we went back to my aunt's house to get my mom's car and I proceeded to drive them around to different bars. The first one we went to, a brand new one called 3 aves., would have been great if it wasn't senior night. I swear, the median age was probably about 60. The mom's got one drink each, and I got a coke. One thing that did kinda make my night entertaining was the fact that the female bartender completely hitting on me. And when we got our bill, my coke wasn't on it! Haha! The other bar we went to was kind of a flop, so we went home after it. My aunt was completely hysterical, but we knew she'd be rough in the morning. Went to bed around 2.
The next afternoon, we left Vero to head to Orlando, where we were going for a Wyndham thing as well as touring a possible school. The hotel we were staying at ($119 for 3 nights!), the Florida Hotel and Convention Center, was BEAUTIFUL. It was directly connected to the Florida Mall, which was a giant, gorgeous mall. We walked around for a little while before getting some dinner from the food court and bringing it back up to our room, where we crashed for the night. The next morning, we went to do the whole Wyndham tour. It ended being a lot nicer than we were expecting it to be. We couldn't be swayed to sign right then and there, but we'll keep in mind. Because we did the tour, we got $70 in cash, which we decided to put toward tickets to Medieval Times, which were discounted through the company. I adore Medieval Times, and was stoked to get to go again. We were in the Black and White section (dead center, but your knight will never win because he's a priest) in the 3rd row. Let me tell you.. for the extra $20, it's worth it be on the front row. I can't tell you how irritating it was to have someone constantly walking back and forth in front of you during the show. We did have a great time, however, and thought it was a great use of our money. Went back to the hotel and brought back more food court food before curling up in our beds. The following day was college tour day. It took us a while to get there because we got crap directions, but we did get there eventually. Full Sail was everything I hoped it would be and more. I was in LOVE. The biggest thing that was in my way was the cost. That sapped up most of our day, and we just retired to our room after. I got my first taste of room service, which was very nice, and we got ready to say goodbye to Florida the next morning.
Left that morning and made the loooooong drive home. Got back about 6 and crashed for the rest of the next 2 days.
So yeah. That was a lot longer than I was expecting it to be. But there ya go. As for everything after that.. it's been pretty dull in comparison. This week will be a bit more exciting, so expect more regular updates.
Peace and love. <3
